John David Murphy Sr. 87, of Cameron, W.V. passed away Tuesday April 8, 2025, surrounded by his family. He was born March 7, 1938, son of the late John E. and Gaye E. Lively Murphy. He was a Christian by faith and a member of the Ryerson Baptist Church. John was an avid outdoorsman who loved to hunt & fish. He loved to spend time with his family telling stories of his life. John worked for Fostoria Glass until its closing in 1983, from there he went on to have 3 successful businesses. First was farming, where he raised beef to sell to individuals as well as area butcher shops. He owned and operated Murphy's Logging from 1987-2006 and then Murphy's Glass from 2006 to current. John's story of glass working has been published in books and as DVD's and showcased in glass museums and sold to individuals and stores nationwide.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers Pete and Paul Murphy, and three sisters and their husbands, Betty (Louis) Williams, Gaye (Ralph) Caldwell, Anna Mae (Carl) Welling, brothers-in-law, Myron Stanley & D.R. Durbin. Robert "Bob" Gast. Survived by his wife of 62 years, Sandy C. (Hammond) Murphy, one daughter Christy and her husband Robert (Bob) Fitzsimmons and one son, John D. Jr. and his wife (Stacey) Murphy, granddaughter Samantha J and her husband David Klug and great-granddaughter Ariah G. Klug. all of Cameron, W.V. sisters-in-law, Ruth Murphy and Joyce Gast. and several nieces & nephews and many friends.
Family will received friends Saturday April 12, 2025, from 10:30 a.m. until time of services at 2:00 p.m. with Pastor Ryan Tharp officiating. at the Anderson Funeral Home & Cremation Services 1109 2nd St. Moundsville, W.V. Burial immediately following to Highland Cemetery, Cameron, W.V.
